Referrals are not required. North Carolina is considered a direct access state for Physical Therapy services, thus, you do not need a physician referral to attend Physical Therapy. If you have Medicare as your primary or secondary insurance, you do not need a referral for your initial visit but will require one for additional visits( unless your existing physician will sign the Plan of Care that we will send out to them).
